In the high-stakes world of cement production, downtime isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s a massive drain on the bottom line. For decades, the industry relied on heavy, bulky cast-style diverter valves to route abrasive materials through pneumatic conveying lines. However, as production demands increase and maintenance windows shrink, these legacy "monoliths" are becoming a liability. At Delta Ducon , we recently addressed this challenge head-on at a major cement production fa

In the Pulp & Paper industry, reliability is the currency of operation. Nowhere is this more evident than in the power and recovery islands of a mill, where equipment is subjected to punishing environments. While Multiclones (multi-cyclone dust collectors) are the industry standard for rugged, first-stage filtration, their efficiency relies heavily on one critical, often overlooked component: the rotary airlock valve at the hopper outlet. For mills struggling with valve failu

Subject: Date: October 2023 Author: Delta Ducon, LLC Abstract Handling high-density reclaim materials (pebble, dust, and regrind) presents unique challenges for industrial processing facilities. These materials are often characterized by high bulk densities (approx. 90 PCF) and abrasive properties that cause rapid wear on standard pneumatic components. Furthermore, the handling of fine reclaim dust creates significant housekeeping and environmental compliance issues. This

Focus: PERMA/flo Pipe & Fittings Goal: Establish Delta Ducon as the expert in piping longevity and demonstrate the technical superiority of your proprietary cast alloy over standard materials. The Pipe Failure Problem in Pneumatic Conveying In systems handling highly abrasive materials like cement, fly ash, or silica, pipe components—especially elbows and bends—are constantly subject to the wearing action of transported solids. Standard carbon steel or even stainless steel pi

This deep dive showcases the engineering rationale behind a new railcar unloading system designed to achieve a reliable 30 Tons Per Hour (TPH) transfer rate for cement, while specifically countering major industry risks: unpredictable material flow and abrasive component wear. The Design Challenge: Unpredictable Railcar Flow The project goal is to efficiently unload cement, a high-density material with 94 lbs/ft, from gravity-style railcars . The primary hurdle is that railca

The Unpredictable Challenge of Railcar Unloading In large-scale material transfer operations, achieving a consistent flow rate is critical for system reliability. When unloading material like cement from gravity railcars, engineers face inherent material handling challenges. Railcar hoppers are notoriously shallow-sloped, which can lead to bridging and restricted flow , making conveying rates highly unpredictable. For a high-capacity transfer, a simple, single system is insu

An Engineer's Perspective on Truck Unloading Systems for High-Abrasive Materials In high-abrasive industries like cement, mining, and minerals, the cost of a pneumatic conveying system is rarely defined by the initial purchase order. For engineers and plant managers focused on long-term reliability, the focus must shift to Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) , where unscheduled downtime and labor for emergency replacement are the true financial killers. Delta Ducon, with over 100

Why Project Budgeting Must Shift from Price to Predictability In high-volume material handling, especially with challenging products like hot Fly Ash (at 176 degree F and 65 PCF bulk density), the initial capital expenditure is a minor fraction of the true cost of ownership. For a high-capacity transfer system—such as a 300 TPH project—the real financial threats are unscheduled downtime and maintenance labor . Delta Ducon, leveraging a century of expertise and strategic col

Why Component Hardness Alone Cannot Guarantee Uptime In the world of high-abrasive material handling (mining, cement, and specialized minerals like Atomite), system reliability is not a feature; it's a non-negotiable requirement. While many suppliers focus on selling hardened components, engineers at Delta Ducon recognize that the root cause of failure is often not the component itself, but the uncontrolled velocity of the material stream. A highly engineered system must ac

Optimize your bioplastic and PET conveying lines by eliminating angel hair, streamers, dusting, and build-up with SPIRAflo's innovative technology. The global push toward sustainable materials is undeniable, and bioplastics and PET are at the forefront of this shift. However, in the world of pneumatic conveying, these advanced polymers face the same costly, persistent challenge as traditional plastics: product degradation . If your conveying lines are plagued by angel hair,

Abstract In the demanding sectors of cement, mining, minerals, steel, building products, battery and power generation, premature equipment failure due to abrasive wear is the single largest contributor to unscheduled downtime and inflated maintenance budgets. This paper details the specialized engineering, materials science, and operational benefits of the Delta Ducon 14" XL Extreme Feeder (Rotary Feeder/Airlock Assembly) . Built upon decades of proven service, the 14" XL Fe

Reliability is directly correlated with the performance of the conveyance systems moving raw materials from railcar unloading to the final injection points. In the rigorous world of steel, metals, and foundry operations, where materials are often hot, heavy, and extremely abrasive, component wear and unexpected downtime can severely impact your bottom line. Delta Ducon: Technical Solutions for Heavy-Duty Material Handling Delta Ducon specializes in providing heavy-duty, engi

You know how trade shows go—you meet a ton of people and talk about a lot of problems. But every now and then, a conversation sticks with you because it challenges you to think differently. That’s exactly what happened to the SPIRA/flo team recently, leading to a monumental leap in our manufacturing capabilities. The Problem: Corrosion vs. Friction A potential customer came to our booth with a serious, familiar problem: their pneumatic conveying lines were a mess of angel ha

The global focus on air quality control has never been sharper, driven by increasingly strict environmental regulations targeting hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) like mercury, dioxins, and furans. In response, Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) Injection has emerged as a cornerstone technology for industrial emission control. PAC systems offer a flexible, effective, and often essential method for capturing and removing these toxic contaminants from industrial flue gas streams.

Dry Sorbent Injection is a post-combustion technology that involves injecting a fine, dry powdered sorbent into a flue gas duct. The sorbent is chosen based on the pollutants it is intended to neutralize. For acid gases, common sorbents include hydrated lime (calcium hydroxide) or sodium bicarbonate. As the fine powder disperses in the hot flue gas stream, a chemical reaction occurs. The sorbent reacts with the gaseous pollutants, converting them into solid salts that can be

For industries handling materials like fly ash, silica sand, alumina, cement, and crushed minerals , the greatest enemy is not production capacity, but abrasion . The relentless, high-speed scouring of abrasive particles against internal components leads to staggering costs: unscheduled downtime, constant component replacement, and high maintenance labor expenses. This guide details the essential, trending strategies for abrasion mitigation and system protection in pneumatic

For companies operating in the demanding environments of Cement, Mining, and Minerals Processing , material handling is a constant engineering challenge. The raw materials—from calcined alumina and silica sand to abrasive fly ash and cement kiln dust—are relentless enemies of equipment longevity. They cut, erode, and grind away system components, turning predictable operations into high-cost maintenance cycles. The central decision in designing a robust, high-performance syst
