Why do Double Dump valves keep failing in CKD applications? (And what we did about it in Texas).

A major cement producer in Texas recently called us with a familiar problem. Their existing Cement Kiln Dust (CKD) dilute phase system was plagued by leakage, inconsistent feed rates, and constant maintenance.
The culprit? Double Dump Valves.
Double dumps are "batch" style valves. To replicate the continuous flow needed for pneumatic conveying, the gates must cycle rapidly. ❌ Excessive cycling = rapid mechanical wear. ❌ Wear = leak points. ❌ Leakage = plugging and inconsistent feed.
We didn't just replace the valve; we upgraded the physics of the process.
We retrofitted the system with our PERMA/flo Extreme Rotary Valve technology. Unlike the pulsing of a double dump, this provided: ✅ Continuous Metered Feed: Stabilizing the convey line pressures. ✅ P-33 Alloy Construction: Cast Solid chrome-nickel-iron (550+ BHN) aimed specifically at abrasive materials like CKD. ✅ Field Adjustability: We replaced the "run-to-failure" model with a "maintain-in-place" design.
We also optimized the venting system to capture blowback air and dust, returning it directly to the process—solving the housekeeping issues instantly.
The Result: A rugged, Made in the USA solution that handles 800°F continuous temps and eliminates the "double dump headache."
Are you still relying on batch-style valves for continuous feed applications? If you are seeing premature wear, it might be time to look at the process, not just the part.
Our commitment to innovation drives us to develop cutting-edge solutions, such as our proprietary Extreme Rotary Valves, PERMA/flo Abrasion Resistant Pipe & Elbows, KG Diverters valves and more.
These advancements ensure our systems are not only future-proofed but also environmentally conscious. At Delta Ducon, we believe in the power of innovation to transform the industry and pave the way for a brighter future. We're not just transporting materials; we're inspiring a better world through ingenuity and sustainable solutions.
